(COLORADO SPRINGS)  — Adrien Beckwith, a senior at Discovery Canyon High School, followed in his brother's footsteps at a young age trying out football. Those plans shortly changed, as he was diagnosed with stage 3 Burkitt lymphoma at 6 years old. After months of treatments in and out of the hospital, Adrien's tumors began shrinking and he was cancer-free. "I knew he was going to come out of it stronger than when he went in and that's exactly what happened," said Janee Beckwith, Adrien's mother. "He came through like a champ." Adrien is now 11 years cancer free. He continued on the path of playing football and other sports until his life took an unexpected turn in 2019. He and his siblings lost their dad in a motorcycle accident. "Losing my dad, it was a really hard time for me, even though it was years ago... it was still difficult getting out of bed and not thinking about it," said Adrien Beckwith. "So going to class, trying to pay attention to what the teacher was saying when I couldn't, because that's all in my mind.” Despite life's battles and the adversity Adrien has overcome, it's his family and football that has kept him going.
