''BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- It's billed as a transformative community initiative designed to create safe outdoor spaces in Oildale. Bakersfield leaders today celebrated the completion of the Cornerstone Oasis Recreation Project. The new recreational area located on Oildale Drive provides an environment where people, especially emancipated foster youth and their children, can gather and play. Organizers say it's truly about fostering a sense of belonging and connection. "This space to us is more than just a recreational area, it is a symbol of hope," said Baylie Scott, with Leadership Bakersfield Team 2. "A place for families to grow, children to play and connections to flourish." The project was spearheaded by Leadership Bakersfield, in collaboration with the Greater Bakersfield Chamber, Covenant Community Services, and the Kern County Housing Authority.
