(DC News Now) -- The Fairfax County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) said it fired and charged a former sergeant for assaulting a suspect in the back of a cruiser. Sgt. Joshua Silver was captured on in-car video punching a handcuffed man who was arrested and brought to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on Sept. 11. In the video, the man was filmed yelling expletives at the officers with a spit bag on his head. Silver opened the door and the man demanded they take the bag off his head. Man charged in connection to loaded gun found in 6-year-old Orange Elementary student’s backpack "Quit shining that [flash]light on me boy," he yelled before spitting at Silver. It's then that Silver lunges at the man, who was still in the back of the cruiser. He punches the man in the head several times, calling him a "Piece of s---," and several other expletives. Silver dragged the man out of the car and onto the pavement. Following the incident, the FCSO said Silver was immediately placed on administrative leave. Since then, he has been charged with Assault and Battery. Criminal charges and administrative investigations are pending and Silver is no longer employed with the Sheriff's Office, FCSO noted.
