MERCED, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The woman who was found dead inside a fuel tank in Delhi has been named by the Merced County Sheriff's Office. Deputies say 32-year-old Mayra Minchaca Torres of Delhi was the woman found dead inside the fuel tank on Monday. A second woman, who was not identified, was found unconscious alongside Torres. The second victim continues to recover in the hospital. According to the Merced County Sheriff's Office, they responded to the 15,000 block of Oak Street in Delhi for a report of two people in a tank containing fuel on Monday afternoon. Investigators say a calf on the property had fallen into the tank and the two women went inside to try to get it out. However, the hazardous fumes inside and the lack of oxygen overcame the two women. They were able to rescue the calf, but the calf had to be euthanized due to its condition. An autopsy to establish the cause of death is pending.
