TOPEKA (KSNT) - Kansas transportation authorities will be closing westbound I-70 completely this weekend for pavement patching work. Kate Craft with the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) said in a press release that work crews will be closing westbound I-70 from 10th Avenue to Topeka Boulevard from 11 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27 through to midnight on Sunday, Sept. 29. The Adams Street on-ramp to westbound I-70 will also be closed at this time. Drivers will be able to use the 10th Avenue exit as the last open exit on westbound I-70 during this project. Through I-70 traffic can follow signed detours to be routed to I-470 or north to K-4 to U.S. 24 and on to U.S. 75. Drivers can also use a local street detour on 10th Avenue and Topeka Boulevard to the First Street I-70 on-ramp. (Photo Courtesy/KDOT) Why is there so much road work in Topeka this fall? Craft said eastbound I-70 will remain open during this project. More closures on I-70 are possible if additional patching work is deemed necessary. For more local news, click here.
