GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The City of Greenfield is expanding its emergency alert system to improve safety communication for residents and visitors. Suicide Prevention and Veteran Mental Health Summit being held in Northampton The enhanced system, known as Greenfield Alert, will function similarly to a Reverse 911 system, allowing the city to send timely notifications about potential dangers and emergencies. Greenfield Police are encouraging residents to register for the service, which can provide critical updates during emergencies such as severe weather, public safety threats, or other events that may pose a risk to the community. "Our plan is to be more responsive and proactive in alerting the community to events that may threaten their safety," said Chief Dodge. Residents interested in signing up for the alert system can visit the city's website. Once there, they can use the search box to find the "Greenfield Alert System" and follow the instructions to complete the registration process. Chief Dodge explained that while the city is still in the process of developing policy and training for the expanded system, early registration will allow residents to begin receiving critical notifications as soon as the system is fully operational. "Receiving alerts will allow the user to take the necessary precautions to further ensure their safety," he said. The Greenfield Alert system is part of the city's broader effort to enhance public safety and keep residents informed during emergencies.
