RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The grace period for speeding violations at the newest Safety Camera locations near Richmond schools will end in October, with current errors in citations to be corrected. According to the Richmond Police Department, the grace period for speeding violations at the newest Safety Camera locations will end on Tuesday, Oct. 1 and drivers caught speeding by more than ten miles per hour will be cited. The following are the nine newest Safety Camera locations with a grace period ending on Oct. 1: Huguenot High School, 7900 block of Forest Hill Avenue Lucille Brown Middle School, 6300 block of Jahnke Road Mary Munford Elementary School, 4500 block of Grove Avenue McClenney Elementary School, 3800 block of Chamberlayne Avenue MLK, Jr. Middle School, 1000 block of Mosby Street River City Middle School, 6300 block of Hull Street Road Swansboro Elementary School, 3160 block of Midlothian Turnpike Thomas Boushall Middle School, 3400 block of Hopkins Road Westover Hills Elementary School, 1200 block of Jahnke Road (Photo courtesy of the Richmond Police Department) The department said the automatic system of identifying speeding violators in front of schools at student arrival and dismissal times was designed to send warnings to the registered owners of the vehicles during the grace period. However, the department said several incorrect citations have been issued by the program vendor instead of warnings. According to police, the vendor has started to send letters notifying those who were issued violations instead of warnings at the new camera locations. The department said those violations have been voided and no payment is required. Those who have already paid the erroneous fines will be issued a refund. Richmond’s school zone cameras are catching speeding drivers – a lot of them According to police, the two pilot locations at Linwood Holton Elementary School, located at West Laburnum Avenue and Hermitage Road, and Patrick Henry School of Science and Arts, located at Semmes Avenue, have been in operation since March and will continue to issue valid citations.
