Providence murder suspect ordered held without bail

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The suspect in this week's homicide on Westminster Street in Providence will remain behind bars for now.
Michael Shaw, 41, was arraigned Thursday on a charge of first-degree murder in the the death of 57-year-old Michael Ames.
According to police, Ames was found dead Wednesday morning in the basement of a multi-family home after someone called for a well-being check.

Shaw was later arrested a few blocks away on Wendell Street. Video submitted by a 12 News viewer shows the moment police caught up with him on top of a storage container.

Shaw briefly appeared in court on Thursday and was ordered held without bail.
The judge said Shaw violated the terms of his probation related to a separate case. He's due back in court next month for a status conference.
