PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The suspect in this week's homicide on Westminster Street in Providence will remain behind bars for now. Michael Shaw, 41, was arraigned Thursday on a charge of first-degree murder in the the death of 57-year-old Michael Ames. According to police, Ames was found dead Wednesday morning in the basement of a multi-family home after someone called for a well-being check. Video submitted by a 12 News viewer shows the moment police caught up with him on top of a storage container. Story continues below video. Shaw briefly appeared in court on Thursday and was ordered held without bail. The judge said Shaw violated the terms of his probation related to a separate case.
