The University of Hawaii football team is staying in the Mountain West Conference as a football-only member. On Thursday, Hawaii, as well as six additional full-time Mountain West members, signed a new agreement binding the seven schools together. All the latest sports news from Hawaii's sports station On Sept. 12, the Pac-12 Conference announced the additions of San Diego State, Boise State, Colorado State and Fresno State as its newest members. All four were former members of the Mountain West. On Tuesday, the Pac-12 announced it was also adding Utah State, another former Mountain West School. Both the Mountain West and Pac-12 currently have seven football-playing schools. In order to be an FBS member, eight teams in a conference are required. The Pac-12 pursued UNLV as its final addition. Meanwhile, the American Athletic Conference was in pursuit of Air Force in order to join Army and Navy. Multiple reports say the Mountain West will commit over $50 million to keep UNLV and Air Force. Every school departing the Mountain West must pay an exit fee of about $17 million. On Thursday, it was announced all seven schools signed a memorandum of understanding for a contract that runs from July 1, 2026 thorugh June 30, 2032. Retention bonuses will be given to all seven remaining schools via percentage. Air Force and UNLV will receive 24.5%, Nevada, New Mexico, San José State and Wyoming 11.5%, and Hawaii 5%.
