EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A former U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer was recently sentenced to two years in federal prison for using excessive force while on duty at the Bridge of Americas Port of Entry and falsifying a document in a federal investigation, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office from the Western District of Texas. Miguel Angel Delgado Jr., 41, was convicted on two counts of deprivation of rights under color of law and one count of the falsification of a document in a federal investigation. The U.S. Attorney's Office says Delgado used excessive force in two incidents while he was on duty at Bridge of Americas Port of Entry between October 2019 through June 2020. As a result of Delgado's use of excessive force, the victims suffered bodily injury. Following one of the incidents, Delgado submitted a CBP Incident Log Report in which he "falsely reported the occurrence," the U.S. Attorney's Office said. The Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General and the CBP Office of Professional Responsibility investigated the case.
