EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The community is invited to the IDEA Rio Vista Academy and College Preparatory's Hispanic Heritage Month celebration. The "Night at the Rio" event will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27 at IDEA Rio Vista, located at 210 N. Rio Vista Rd. in Socorro. According to IDEA Public Schools, the kermes-like celebration will highlight cultural performances, live entertainment, games and foods and drinks bought with cash only. "We are thrilled to bring back one of our traditional events," said Oscar Alvarez, assistant principal of Operations of IDEA Rio Vista. "This event is not only a vibrant showcase of our students' talents and cultural heritage but also an opportunity to bring our community together in support of our mission. By celebrating our rich traditions and fostering a spirit of unity, we are reinforcing our commitment to guiding every scholar to and through college.” In addition, the Mayor of Socorro, Ivy Avalos, will be in attendance to help kick off the celebration and fun, according to IDEA Public Schools. Each grade level will host a booth with activities such as face painting and games, or a booth with food and drinks such as tacos, aguas frescas, chicharrones and more. The funds raised in each booth will go towards supporting the grade levels' travels to visit colleges and universities, according to IDEA Public Schools.
