(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has released the identity of a motorcyclist who was killed in a crash in early September on East Platte Avenue near Knob Hill. According to CSPD, officers responded just before 8 a.m. on Sept. 3 to the intersection of Platte and Don Juan Street on a report of a crash involving a pickup truck and a motorcycle. The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. PREVIOUS COVERAGE: Fatal crash at E. Platte and Don Juan St. CSPD’s initial information is that the motorcycle was traveling west on E. Platte Ave. and the pickup truck was traveling east and trying to turn onto Don Juan when the crash occurred. CSPD said at this time, no charges have been filed, though the investigation is ongoing. According to CSPD, on Sept. 4, the El Paso County Coroner's Office identified the motorcyclist as 35-year-old Michael Pinegar. CSPD said this was the 38th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year. At this time in 2023, there had been 30 fatalities.
