UPDATE: THURSDAY 9/26/2024 2:56 p.m. (EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — The El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO) has released more information about the fire that fire crews have controlled but are still trying to put out. EPSO said there was a report of an explosion at 12:20 p.m., and fuel inside the structure caused the explosion. Pre-evacuations were put in place when responders arrived at the building. The fire has been contained to hay bales and the building, which covered less than 0.25 acres. No injuries were reported. EPSO said multiple agencies including Elbert, Franktown, Peyton, Monument, Ellicott, and CSFD helped assist in the response. The fire did not spread to any communities, and less than five homes were affected by the pre-evacuations. At the moment, only East County Line Road remains closed. EPSO said at around 1 p.m. on Thursday deputies are helping the Falcon Fire Department with a fire on the 2600 block of County Line Road and Meridian Road in Elbert. The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) has also been requested to help battle the fire. EPSO said via X (formerly known as Twitter), that motorists should avoid the area as East County Line Road to Meridian is closed. At around 1:37 p.m., EPSO announced pre-evacuation notices had been given to residents along Meridian Road, south of East County Line Road, and north of Walker.
