CLAREMONT, N.C. – A four-year-old was killed and three other children were hospitalized after a head-on crash in Catawba County during heavy rain on Thursday morning. NC State Highway Patrol responded to the crash around 8:10 a.m. on Boggs Road near Hunsucker Drive. During heavy rain conditions, a 2008 GMC Acadia was traveling west on Boggs Road when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with an eastbound 2022 GMC Yukon. The driver of the Acadia, identified as 32-year-old Lyndsey Nicole Gaddis of Catawba, was transported by EMS to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. According to a news release, a four-year-old had child succumbed to her injuries from the crash and a 12-year-old child was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Yukon, Tiffany Miner Sipe, 34, of Claremont, was transported by EMS to an area hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries. Two child passengers were transported to area hospitals including a two-year-old child with life-threatening injuries and four-year-old child with minor injuries. The initial investigation indicates impairment was not a contributing factor in the collision. Possible charges are pending upon completion of the ongoing investigation.
