BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- Two people were arrested and charged in connection with racist graffiti spray-painted around Kenney Park earlier this month, the Town of Tonawanda Police Department announced Thursday.
Stephen Achilli, 20, of Grand Island and 19-year-old Rekwan Gilbert of Tonawanda were both charged with second-degree criminal mischief and making graffiti.
Officials said the "extensive" graffiti of racist, derogatory and obscene words and images was done on Sept. 15. The graffiti damaged equipment, structures, sidewalks and other surfaces, causing over $1,500 in repairs.
Achilli and Gilbert were arraigned on Sept. 25. They were released on their own recognizance and are scheduled to return to court Oct. 7.
