Caldwell Police arrested an 81-year-old man after an almost six-hour standoff on Wednesday. CBS2 reports that Caldwell Police responded to a call about a man driving through a neighborhood at a high speed and nearly striking someone and threatening them with physical violence. When officers arrived and attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, the man refused to yield and fled into his residence. The man was identified as Erwin Dahlke of Caldwell. Police believed Dahlke to have been heavily armed after he threatened to shoot officers. Dahlke refused to communicate with officers and barricaded inside the residence. Officers turned off the power to the residence and fired tear gas into the house, causing him to come out, but he still refused to comply with officers, so a bean bag round was used to take him into custody. Dahlke was given medical attention and booked into Canyon County Jail for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, eluding officers and resisting arrest.
