BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Baton Rouge General and community partners are working together to eliminate healthcare barriers on the north side of town. “We know in North Baton Rouge, access to health care is not something that is easily accessible. And so, this allows us to be able to provide health care to everyone, no matter where they are or what they're going through," said Lauren Hebert-Henderson, BRG director of community relations. The new BRG 'Care on the Go' mobile unit will provide primary and urgent care services. Herbert-Henderson says this is all possible with the help of monetary donations. “On this unit is all everything you'll need for a physician that you will get in a primary care office. So, if you go see your doctor in the clinic, we can do it on the bus. From labs to regular medication refills, everything you would need to be able to have adequate health care," said Hebert-Henderson. State representative invites public to meeting in Baton Rouge, talk about district improvements Getting to and from doctor appointments is an obstacle for many families. BRG says this initiative allows healthcare workers to meet people where they are. “Transportation is really big, and it's a barrier in North Baton Rouge. A lot of families and residents rely on public transportation. That sometimes comes a lot later if there’s traffic," said Hebert-Henderson. With North Baton Rouge being a food desert, BRG says they’re working with the food bank to bring healthy meals to families.  “Just imagine if a patient has diabetes or hypertension, and they need to be able to provide or eat nutritious foods to be able to combat some of those issues," said Hebert-Henderson. The mobile unit will start running on Monday with its weekly four stops.  9 a.m. to noon on Mondays at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, 4000 Gus Young Ave. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays at the True Light Baptist Church, 3836 North St. 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Eden Park Library, 5131 Greenwell Springs Road. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursdays at the Turner Plaza Housing Authority, 4546 North St. Close Thanks for signing up!
