$11.9 million secured for revitalization of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The City of Bakersfield Recreation & Parks Department announced big funds going toward a park revitalization project on Thursday.
The U.S. Department of Interior awarded $11.9 million to the Recreation & Parks Department on Sept. 25 for the revitalization of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park, according to Joe Conroy, PIO for the City of Bakersfield.

The MLK Park Revitalization project was just one of 15 projects selected in California for funding. Of all 54 projects selected nationally, the MLK Park Revitalization project received the second most amount of funds.
Officials say this project will provide enhanced safety, more play opportunities, a community center and community programming to the 16.1-acre complex.
