BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Charges against a Riverside County man accused of traveling to Tehachapi for sex with a 13-year-old girl were dismissed after Riverside authorities said they'll take over the case, according to prosecutors. Three felony counts were dismissed Wednesday against Emmett Augare. "Our office has been in communication with Riverside County DA, who will consolidate this case into their open cases involving similar charges," Kern County District Attorney's Office spokeswoman Daniela Gonzaga said in an email. Augare was charged with two counts involving sex with a minor and one count of contacting a minor to commit a sex act. As police tried to enter a backyard, a teen approached and told them her parents were sleeping and nothing was going on. The police woke up her parents. They let officers in the backyard and Augare was found hiding under a bush in the back garden, according to a warrant. The teen then told police she and Augare had been communicating on Snapchat since April and had met three times in the garden, where they'd engaged in sex acts. Close Thanks for signing up! He said he traveled to Tehachapi “looking to buy land and also met with her while doing so,” according to the warrant. “(Augare) stated he knew the victim was 13 and wanted to be her friend,” an investigator wrote.
