It will be a high noon tip when Princeton and Rutgers continue their men’s basketball rivalry this season. The seventh edition of the Never Forget Tribute Classic — this one featuring the Garden State foes — will be on Saturday, Dec. 21 at the Prudential Center in Newark. Tip off is scheduled for noon with FS1 carrying the action live. The Tigers and Scarlet Knights are playing for the 122nd time — the most frequent non-conference opponent for both programs — with Princeton coming off a victory in last season’s meeting for its fourth win the last five meetings. The Tigers lead the all-time series, 76-45. Princeton is coming off a 24-5 campaign in which it won the outright Ivy League regular-season championship and played in the NIT. Returning for coach Mitch Henderson’s side are First Team All-Ivy players Xaivian Lee and Caden Pierce. Pierce is the reigning Ivy Player of the Year. Rutgers went 15-13 last season and missed out on the postseason. Coach Steve Pikiell has his best recruiting class ever, which is headlined by crown jewels Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey. Both players are projected to be NBA lottery picks. The Scarlet Knights also added experienced transfers to surround their star freshmen, a list that includes Zach Martini from Princeton. Princeton begins its season on Nov. 4 at Jadwin Gymnasium against Iona before playing Duquesne in Trenton as part the Jersey Jam. Last season’s Jersey Jam served as the season opener against Rutgers. This year’s event is a doubleheader with Monmouth and Temple meeting in the other matchup. Tickets for the Never Forget Tribute Classic go on sale Monday, Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. via PruCenter.com, Ticketmaster.com and the Prudential Center’s Box Office.
