With half the regular season in the books, it’s not too early to start taking a look at how the PIAA District 1 Class 6A football playoffs are shaping up. Keeping in mind 16 teams qualify for the 6A bracket, heading into this weekend’s play two local  teams would make the playoffs. One is Neshaminy, which is sitting fourth in the power rankings with a record of 4-1. Considering five wins usually gets a team in, the Redskins would appear to be in very good shape. Keep in mind, however, other than beating Abington nothing  is a given in the strong Suburban One League National Division. Neshaminy’s remaining schedule is difficult, including games against the three Central Bucks squads, a trip to Pennridge and Pennsbury. Pennsbury is the other team that would currently qualify and is sitting 11th on the chart. A positive for Pennsbury is it has yet to play Abington. On the other hand, the Falcons will be the underdog in its next three games against Central Bucks South (5-0), Central Bucks West (3-2) and North Penn (5-0). Of the remaining area 6A teams, Council Rock South has the best chance to get in if it can pick up three wins against Sub One Continental teams. In terms of the other area Lower Bucks teams, Morrisville (Class A) and Bristol (Class 2A) are once again headed to the playoffs. Neshaminy (4-1) at Central Bucks West (3-2), Friday, 7 p.m.: This is by far the most difficult game Neshaminy will face to date. In action last week, C.B. West came up just short in a 22-17 loss to C.B. South. It owns a victory over Easton and its other loss was to Souderton by seven points. The well coached Bucks can run the ball and play physical defense. As expected, Neshaminy destroyed Abington last week. For the Redskins to win they must play their best game of the season and catch a couple of breaks. Council Rock South (2-3) at Bensalem (2-3), Friday, 7 p.m.: Rock South stumbled at Upper Dublin, 24-7, last week while Bensalem fell to previously winless Cheltenham, 31-14. Look for the Owls to score on a couple of big plays, but slowing down the Rock South running game led by Shane Myers will be difficult. Quakertown (2-3) at Council Rock North (1-4), Friday, 7 p.m.: In one of the wildest and most improbable comebacks in this or any season, Quakertown roared back from a 28-0 deficit to beat Souderton, 35-34, last week. Rock North got its first win with a 16-13 victory over Truman, but is not as talented as Quakertown, which must be sky high after it kept its playoff hopes alive. Upper Dublin (3-2) at Truman (1-4), Friday, 7 p.m.: Based on Upper Dublin’s 17-point victory over Council Rock South, this doesn’t look good for the Tigers. Offense continues to be a  problem for Truman, which has scored just 20 points in its last four games. Renaissance Academy (0-5) at Morrisville (4-1), Friday, 7 p.m.: Mo’ville bounced back nicely from its first loss to beat Academy of New Church, 22-19. Look for a resounding win this week. Renaissance is 0-5 and has been shut out four times. There’s no telling how many yards Raymond Holman may run for before he’s pulled from the game, which will be broadcast on WBCB. Central Bucks South (5-0) at Pennsbury (3-2), Saturday, Noon: The Falcons had a solid win last Friday when they beat C.B. East, 17-14, on a field goal by Angelo Pereira in the final seconds. Last year’s District 1 Class 6A champion, C.B. South is ranked highly in the state. It has a very capable quarterback in Owen Pinkerton and a power running game led by Kaden Kube. Pennsbury’s running game has come on of late with Jordan Brensinger and Kaiden Brown both going over 100 yards last week. It was the fifth straight game Brensinger rushed for 100 yards. A Pennsbury win would be a major upset, but the Falcons will be at home. Successfully limiting the passing yardage is an absolute must for the  Pennsbury defense.. Archbishop Ryan (3-2) at Conwell-Egan (2-2), Saturday, 2 p.m.: The Conwell-Egan offense really came to life in its last game when it put 48 points on the board against West Catholic. This Philadelphia Catholic League Blue Division  game will be tougher. Ryan beat West Catholic by 18 points and owns a victory over the Red Division’s Father Judge. District 1 Class 6A 1. North Penn (5-0)  168; 2. Downingtown West (5-0) 158; 3. Central Bucks South (5-0) 150; 4. Neshaminy (4-1) 130; 5. Owen J. Roberts (4-1) 126; 6. Haverford (4-1) 122; 7. Perkiomen Valley (3-2) 120; 8. Pennridge (3-2) 116; 9. Central Bucks West (3-2), Ridley (3-2) 110 each; 11. Pennsbury (3-2) 108; 12. Dowingtown East (3-2) 104; 13. Upper Darby (3-2) 98; 14. Norristown (3-2) 92; 15. Spring-Ford (2-3), Plymouth-Whitemarsh (3-2) 90 each; 20. Council Rock South (2-3) 80; 24. Bensalem  (2-3) 70; 25. Council Rock North (1-4) 58; 28. Truman (1-4) 42.
