Connecticut River boat ramp in Gill to close for paving

GILL, Mass. (WWLP) - The Gill Police are notifying boaters that the ramp along the Connecticut River will be temporarily closed for construction.
Life jackets must now be worn in Massachusetts by canoeists and kayakers
Beginning October 7th, the Barton's Cove state boat ramp and parking lot will be closed for approximately two weeks for pavement resurfacing. The Northfield boat ramp will remain open and available for fishing and boating access.
According to Massachusetts law, all canoeists and kayakers must wear a life jacket while on the water from September 15th through May 15th however, it is safe and responsible to consistently wear a life jacket every time boaters are in the water. In Massachusetts, children under the age of 12 must wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket while on a boat that is underway.
