CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Chesterfield County is reminding voters casting by-mail absentee ballots to follow state law for their votes to count. Chesterfield County voters casting by-mail absentee ballots must provide the last four digits of their Social Security Number and their birth year on the "Statement of Voter" section of the ballot envelope, according to the county. The county said legislative changes, such as HB 1948, removed the witness signature requirement for absentee ballots and required voters to provide the last four digits of their Social Security Number and birth year on the ballot envelope instead. Ballots will not be counted if the voter does not fill in the "Statement of Voter" portion on the envelope completely and accurately. Registered Chesterfield County voters using a by-mail absentee ballot can return their ballot either by mail or in a Dropbox, located at all open polling locations during voting hours. A ballot dropbox is also available at the Registrar's Office during business hours. According to the county, absentee ballots requested by registered Chesterfield County voters are currently being mailed to their residences. The deadline to request an absentee ballot for the Nov. 5 General Election is Friday, Oct. 25. For more information about absentee ballot returns, as well as information regarding the November General and Special Elections, visit the Chesterfield General Registrar's webpage.
