According to the Enid Police Department, on May 4, 2023, officers and investigators responded to Resendiz's home in the 800 block of E. Poplar Ave. after he called 911 and claimed Smith had shot herself in the head.
Smith's body was taken to the medical examiner's office, where her cause of death was ruled as "unknown".
More than a year later, on September 5, 2024, Detective Jose Torres got information saying Resendiz was allegedly responsible for the shooting. Investigators were able to produce enough probable cause to obtain a warrant for Resendiz's arrest.
Officials say Resendiz has been booked into the Garfield County Detention Center on a $250,000 bond.
