(WANE) - Just over a month after the birth of a giraffe at the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo, her name has been revealed. Mila is the newest addition to the giraffe herd at the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo. Thursday, the zoo announced the baby girl's name is Mila. The newest addition to the herd was born Aug. 16, weighing 150 lbs and standing 5 feet 10 inches tall as a newborn. The proud parents are Faye, an 11-year-old giraffe, and Ezeji, a 14-year-old giraffe. The name was picked following a live auction at the zoo on Sept. 12. Jake and Molly Hallow with their daughter, Mila, a giraffe lover who now has one named after her at the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo. “The Zoo doesn’t have a new baby giraffe birth very often. Then to have her birth perfectly timed with our annual gala, we knew we had to include her naming opportunity as part of Zoobilee,” said Rick Schuiteman, FWCZ Executive Director. “It was the highlight of the evening with quite the bidding excitement. The Zoo is so grateful to the generous support of the Hallow Family.” And the chosen name holds special meaning for the family who got to pick it out. “Mila was a very easy choice for us,” Jake and Molly Hallow said. “Mila is our daughter’s name, who is quite the giraffe lover, even at her young age. Our Mila was excited to meet her namesake today.” There are now six giraffes at the zoo: one male and five females, including Mila.
