BOSTON (WWLP) - The giant, invasive Joro spider has made its way to Massachusetts.
Beacon Hill celebrates Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month
One spider is building its nest on Beacon Hill. The yellow, palm-sized spider is from East Asia and was first spotted in the United States in Georgia about a decade ago.
They've picked up a rather chilling reputation online as people say they've seen them flying. Scientists say it's closer to using a parachute as they release silk strands that can catch the wind and carry them through the air. They have a leg span of around four inches long.
Experts say although it is invasive, there is no threat to humans. The spider's bite is rare and less painful than a bee sting.
